"A Journey of Wisdom: Chronicles of a Black Scholar in Accra and Cape Coast"

Embarking on the exciting venture of establishing a study abroad program, my journey led me to the vibrant cities of Accra and Cape Coast in Ghana. As a black woman professor, this exploration of rich cultural landscapes was not only a professional undertaking but also a personal odyssey of connection and discovery.

Accra: A Cultural Hub: My home base in Accra was the enchanting LA VILLA BOUTIQUE HOTEL. Nestled in the heart of the city, its unique blend of luxury and local charm set the stage for a meaningful start to my journey. Accra's energy was palpable as I delved into the vibrant streets, local markets, and engaging with the warm-hearted locals.

Historical Echoes at W.E.B. Du Bois' Home: An essential stop on my itinerary was the home of the esteemed W.E.B. Du Bois. Walking through the halls where this iconic figure lived and worked was a powerful experience. It was a poignant reminder of the global impact of black scholars and the interconnectedness of our histories.

Academic Endeavors: The academic purpose of my trip was to begin the work of developing a short-term study abroad program to Accra, Ghana.

In addition to presenting, attending workshops on "Inclusivity in Higher Education" and "How to Discuss Race, Racism, and Politics in 21st Century American Schools" broadened my understanding. These sessions, enriched by diverse perspectives, laid the groundwork for the inclusive study abroad program I envisioned.

Cape Coast: Unveiling Historical Narratives: Moving on to Cape Coast, the COCONUT GROVE BEACH RESORT provided a picturesque setting for reflection and planning. This coastal town, with its breathtaking views and historical significance, became the canvas on which I envisioned a transformative learning experience for my students.

Exploring the Cape Coast Slave Dungeons and engaging with its history was a poignant moment. The weight of the past, intertwined with the beauty of the present, created a profound impact on my understanding of the global African diaspora.

Culinary and Cultural Marvels: Ghanaian cuisine, with its bold flavors and diverse offerings, became a daily celebration. From street food adventures to savoring local specialties, each culinary experience was a delightful journey through Ghana's rich gastronomic heritage.
